I have been involved in music, in one way or another, for as long as I can remember, at primary and secondary school and, later, through community choirs, orchestral ensembles and theatre.
I currently teach piano/keyboard, and have also taught clarinet and recorder.
I am trained in Suzuki and traditional piano methods.
Teaching music is just the best job! It allows me to combine my love of teaching, working with children and my lifelong passion for music.
I believe music has a very important role to play in not only a child’s education but also their emotional development – music unlocks the ‘soul’, often allowing children to express feelings that they otherwise may not be able to articulate in words or even ideas.
My early career was as a journalist and freelance editor. Once my children were born, I made a wonderful career change to music teaching be able to spend more family-friendly hours.
My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that music should be accessible to everyone – all children have some level of musical ability and should be assisted in feeling comfortable and safe to express themselves via music.
