2014 Concert – St Peters

Kids on Key End of Year Concert Report

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the instrumentalists for their wonderful performances at our end-of-year instrumental concerts recently, a celebration of another year of learning for our developing musicians.

The concert theme was ”Classical Music”, with each student performing a solo piece of their choosing and participating in a group song relating to the theme. The group songs are an important part of our music program because they provide a valuable opportunity for the students to develop aural skills and musical confidence, and help with practice motivation because they are part of a team.

Well done to students who were presented with awards on concert night in recognition of dedication across a range of areas such as home practice, perseverance and attitude:

  • Keyboard – Annalisa Calvi, Sienna Makhlout, Hayden Donald, Kiara Ancora, Samantha Stenos, Karla Martinz, Oliver Martinz, Abigail Cant, Noah Lazarro, Aylssa Mercuri
  • Recorder– Kaitlyn Rodrigues,
  • Clarinet – Natasha Kalavrouziotis
  • Guitar – Thomas Scown, Lachlan English, Murphy Dale, Lachlan Houniet, Yali Lin, Maya Broderick

We would also like to recognise the wonderful achievements of St Peter’s students who undertook piano examinations with the Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts Ltd in 2014:

  • Introductory: Elaine Phan, Abigail Cant, Robert Kosta-McCance
  • Gr ade Preparatory: Nicholas Kouroupis, Cecily Pope
  • Grade Preliminary: Emma Kibsguuard, Christina Mitten

Hayden Donald

  • Grade One: Keenan D’Souza, Katie Ferrigno,
  • Samantha Kinatar

Thank you to audience members who generously gave a gold-coin donation which has enabled Kids on Key to continue our World Vision child sponsorship of Ackina Ngoma from Zambia. We would also like to extend a thank you to all instrumental parents for your continued support of your children’s musical endeavours through home practice and encouragement.

A big congratulations to all the students who took part in the music program this year. We are very proud of all of you!!

Acklina – Sponsor Child

For the past 3 years Kids on Key has been sponsoring a child from World Vision. Her name is Acklina Ngoma, she is 12 years old and is from Zambia.

Each year at our annual evening music concerts, parents are asked to make a small donation at the door and the total money raised goes towards sponsoring Acklina for the next 12 months. Annual sponsorship costs are $600 per annum so we very much hope that each year we can reach this target to enable us to continue our sponsorship of Acklina through the years.

Facts about Acklina:

Birthdate: 17th July 2002
Education: Not at school
Language: Ngoni

Acklina lives with her parents and has 2 brothers. Her mother and father are both unemployed.

We would also like to encourage any of the Kids on Key music students to write to Acklina. To write to her simply include her name and Child Number ZAM-190041-1330 in your letter and address the envelope as follows:

Testimonials

After one year of keyboard, we were pleasantly surprised how well Christy performed as part of a group in a lovely end of year concert. Christy found further motivation when I finally made time to squeeze in a few private lessons so that she could measure her progress by completing exams. The group and private lessons provide complementary outcomes, by creating a musician who wants to improve and who can play as part of a group. Cath has a caring approach, and there is no pressure to take on private lessons. - Stephanie Mitten
My daughter has been attending Kids on Key through our school for the last 4 years. In this time she has developed a love of music and fostered a wonderful relationship with her music teacher. Kids on Key has provided my daughter with a positive, fun and challenging music program. My daughter is excited to be partaking in her next ANZCA exam for piano this year and I am positive that her love of music and piano is because of the fantastic environment provided by Kids on Key. - Kylie Kibsgaard
My children have been learning keyboard for about 4 years with Kids on Key. I think it is a fantastic program, especially as these classes can be done around school times. My children have learned to read music as well as learn keyboard, both of which I truly believe helps to expand our children’s mind for many other areas of their life, similar to the benefits of learning another language, and Susan is just a wonderful teacher. The opportunity to further the education with exams and grading is there for the students that wish to pursue their instruments further. - Nancy Gibson
